Abstract. The article examines literary text as a communicative event of sociocultural importance, as a form of communication between the remote author and the reader. The paper emphasizes the role of the translator while transmitting the artistic and discursive value of the original text, analyzes the translator’s working stages, the general strategies of translation. As an example, the author explores E. T. A. Hoffmann’s creative work in the context of intercultural dialogue.
