DIALOGUE ON MUSICAL CONTENT OF MUSIC

Abstract. Immanent and non-musical meanings - is there an unambiguous answer, what is the essence of music, the basis of its content? This dialogue, initiated in the romantic XIX century, acquired relevance in the XX century due to avant-garde, which determined one of the main artistic paradigms of the modern art. The author’s dialogue on musical content is a dispute with the one-sided conception of music as an opponent of verbal art, not capable to express meanings outside specifically musical structures (melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre, etc.). The dialogue aims to overcome the dichotomy "musical - non-musical" in the interpretation of musical and meaning-formative processes on the basis of A. F. Losev’s phenomenology of word and music, Y. M. Lotman’s typologization of culture, style-formation conceptions by V. Zh. Konen and G. I. Ganzburg.
