CHRISTIANITY AND THE ROMAN ARMY IN THE II-III CENTURIES

Abstract. This work is a retort to the materials of the articles that appeared in the second decade of the XXI century over the Internet and in the collections of historical conferences during the debate about the presence of Christians in the Roman army in the II-III centuries. According to the author, the massive penetration of Christians into the Roman army before the beginning of the IV century was impossible due to Roman traditions. An exception might be the tribal militiamen of numery and simmahiary headed by their tribal chiefs, among whom Ostro- and Visigoths early Christianized by the Arian model could be.
