PROBLEM OF WAR AND PEACE IN ISLAM: CLASSICAL APPROACHES AND MODERN INTERPRETATIONS

Abstract. The article is devoted to analyzing the Islamic theological and legal discourse of war and peace, examining its ethical and juridical aspects. The author explores the sequence of the developmental stages of Islamic doctrines in the sphere of international relations, identifies the basic provisions of traditional theories and their modern interpretations. Having analyzed the relevant conceptions the paper concludes that the nowadays dominant approaches are characterized by ambivalent universalism.
