AESTHETICS OF POSTMODERN DANCE IN THE EARLY PERFORMANCES OF MEREDITH MONK

Abstract. The article presents a brief review of early performances of the American composer Meredith Monk from the viewpoint of their interaction with the main tendencies of the American postmodern dance of the end of the 60s - the beginning of 70s of the XX century, having formed around the creative unity "Judson Dance Theater". The performance "Juice: A Theatre Cantata in Three Installments", 1969, is examined more thoroughly, where the author experiments with the categories of space and time, investigates the boundaries in relation to public and performer thus expanding the horizons of modern musical theatre of the USA of the second half of the XX century.
