THE HISTORY OF THE COSSACKS OF THE URUP RIVER IN THE WORKS BY REGIONAL ETHNOGRAPHER M. N. LOZHKIN

Abstract. The article examines the works by famous Kuban regional ethnographer, teacher M. N. Lozhkin devoted to the Cossack history of the Urup region, focuses on his social and publicistic activity to revive Cossacks in the eastern Kuban regions in the 1980-1990s. The paper analyzes his view on the place and role of Cossacks in the Russian history, shows his influence on the formation of historical and cultural memory and social identity of the descendants of the Urup Cossacks.
