SUBSTRATE OF THE CITY IN SYSTEM-SEMIOTIC STUDY OF URBAN SPACE

Abstract. The article reveals the notion of an urban environment in the context of the system-semiotic approach in philosophy. The city, being a system consisting of a concept, structure and substrate, is constantly transformed in each of these components. The purpose of this research is to study the substrate level of the city, consisting of the elements of public and private spaces. As a result, it is revealed that they include both the complex of the city infrastructure and personal (mental) features of the urban sphere perception. The author offers an original conception of the role and meaning of the substrate level of the city in the multidimensional social development of mankind.
