Abstract. The letters of the Soviet soldier Vladimir Volodin from the Soviet-Finnish war, sent from the Toksovo point on the Karelian Isthmus, are introduced into the scientific use. The author proceeds from the premise that the increase of the source base and the expansion of the research problems can be the basis for clarifying the discussion issues related to that war. The paper points out that in the collections of documents insufficient attention is given to personal soldiers’ documents, although, according to the author’s opinion, such sources help to present the everyday life of the war, describe the thoughts and feelings of direct participants in the events.
