"THE IRRATIONAL" IN RUSSIAN NEO-KANTIANISM: TWO WAVES OF UNDERSTANDING

Abstract. The article reveals the meaning of "the irrational" in Russian neo-Kantianism of the late XIX - the early XX century, where two basic approaches to understanding the correlation of the rational and the irrational are identified. Consistently within the history of philosophy, the author analyzes the academic criticism presented by A. I. Vvedensky and mature Russian neo-Kantianism, methodologically oriented towards the Baden (S. I. Gessen, F. A. Stepun, B. V. Yakovenko) and the Marburg (V. E. Seseman, B. A. Focht) schools of German neo-Kantianism. The paper concludes that there are three models of the functional use of the irrational in Russian neo-Kantianism.
