TRADITION OF ITALIAN SCHOOL OF PAINTING IN UTRECHT CARAVAGGISM

Abstract. The article traces the tradition of Italian school of painting, in particular, Caravaggio’s artistic style, in creative work of such Utrecht Caravaggisti of the XVII century as Hendrick Jansz ter Brugghen, Gerard van Honthorst, Dirck van Baburen. The author examines thematic and stylistic techniques of Italian baroque. Using artistic-expressive methods the researcher provides a stylistic and compositional analysis and compares styles of Utrecht Caravaggisti. The paper concludes that Italian school influenced Utrecht Caravaggisti, who changed the approach to depicting historical and secular scenes.
