Vostretsov Yurii Evgen'evich
Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East of the Far-Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Abstract. The article deals with the role of acorns as food resources in human evolution. Reasons for weak interest of archaeologists and ethnographers in the study of nutrition issues are formulated. Positive characteristics of acorns for stabilization of life support systems are analyzed. A brief review of archaeological finds of acorns in the world in general and in East Asia in particular is offered. Trends in spreading of oak forests in East Asia at the end of the Pleistocene - during the Holocene and finds of acorns at archaeological sites of Primorye are considered. Ethnographic data collected by the author about acorns use by the indigenous small peoples of Primorye and the Amur region are presented.
