FIRE-FIGHTING ACTIVITY OF UFA GOVERNOR I. F. SHCHERBATSKII IN UFA PROVINCE

Abstract. The article deals with fire-fighting activity of Ufa governor I. F. Shcherbatskii (1873-1876) in Ufa province. The official in order to prevent fires proposed to eliminate malfunction of furnaces and chimneys, to suppress construction of illegal buildings in case of non-compliance with fire safety rules at the very beginning of construction works, and to purchase fire extinguishing tools and water cannons. The author comes to the conclusion that, despite the measures taken, the number of fires in the province did not diminish.
