HUNGER OF 1921-1923 IN THE KHOPYOR AND UST-MEDVEDITSKAYA DISTRICTS OF TSARITSYN PROVINCE AND THE AMERICAN RELIEF ADMINISTRATION (ARA)

Abstract. The article describes struggle against hunger of 1921-1923 in the Upper Don regions of Tsaritsyn Province and activity of the American Relief Administration (ARA). The authors discover the basic causes of hunger that spread around the territory (by the example of the Khopyor and Ust-Medveditskaya districts). The publication identifies the key trends of the ARA activity to help the starving and emphasizes that all the ARA charitable activity in the mentioned districts was concentrated basically on the territory of Ust-Medveditskaya district.
