ON PRIMITIVE ZOO- AND PLANTO-CENTRISM OF MAYKOP TRIBES

Bgazhnokov Barasbi Khachimovich
Kabardino-Balkarian Institute of Humanities Researches in Nalchik

Abstract. The article introduces new interpretation of unique artifacts of Maykop culture: dog figures (silver and bronze) discovered at the bedside of a child buried in a two-chamber tomb (tumulus № 31 near Novosvobodnaya stanitsa) and images on silver vessels from Oshad tumulus. Comparing these findings with certain peculiarities of the Circassian lexico-semantic system allows the author to suggest prevalence of primitive zoo- and planto-centrism among Maykop-Novosvobodnaya tribes.
