DEVELOPING LEARNERS’ COGNITIVE AUTONOMY ON THE BASIS OF ‘GOOGLE MAPS’ GEO-SERVICE AND TEACHER’S PERSONAL SITE WHILE CONDUCTING ADDITIONAL ENGLISH CLASSES

Abstract. The article examines the possibilities for using ‘Google Maps’ service on the English teacher’s personal site to promote cognitive autonomy of middle- and senior-grade students of general education institutions in extra-curriculum education. The paper provides examples of using ‘Google Maps’ technology in the English language teaching and proposes an algorithm for teachers and students to generate Google maps within the framework of project-based activity. The study indicates that such technologies provide serious advantages: students’ active involvement into educational process, raising motivation, efficient organization of educational space.
