ACTIVITY OF PEASANT MUTUAL ASSISTANCE COMMITTEES AS ONE OF SOCIAL WORK TRENDS IN THE 1920S (BY THE EXAMPLE OF YAKUTIA)

Abstract. The article reveals the role of peasant mutual assistance committees in organizing social assistance to the rural population of Yakutia in the 1920s. It is shown that in the hard period of restoring the national economy, the tasks of peasants’ social assistance were delegated to the mutual assistance committees. Analyzing and summarizing the information from archival sources, the author for the first time examines the formation and activity of mutual assistance committees in Yakutia. The paper concludes that the system of mutual assistance established in the 1920s laid foundations for peasant self-government, motivated them to solve social problems on their own.
