Abstract. The article examines Robert Sturua’s performance "Richard III" by Shakespeare’s play of the same name (1979, Rustaveli National Theater, Georgia). Having studied the theatrical-critical articles devoted to it, the author comes to the conclusion about the unresolved issue of the artistic content of the production and offers her judgment on the basis of identifying the performance’s composition. The study of the press, the structure of the play and its content will be useful to theorists and practitioners of the theater, teachers of theater universities in the courses on the history and theory of theater, in seminars on the history of theater and theater criticism.
