PROBLEM OF INNER MONOLOGUE IN FEATURE FILMS: VERBAL AND EDITING-ASSOCIATIVE FORMS

Abstract. The article considers the multidimensional nature of the "inner monologue" concept, identifies the specificity of the "inner monologue" term functioning in different spheres of art criticism. The author focuses on analysing inner monologue in feature films as a means to reveal a personage’s psychology, to represent his inner world by means of cinematography. Relying on the existing theoretical basis and on the analysis of some films the author identifies two cardinally different forms of inner monologue presentation in feature films: voice-over and complicated associative audio-visual editing. The paper justifies the necessity to clarify the term: two basic forms of inner monologue presentation in feature films should be designated as verbal and editing-associative forms.
