Abstract.
Many sides of life, the spiritual and material culture of the Balkan population were widely depicted in the works of the Russian travelers and the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 veterans. Contemporaries paid special attention to the Serbian urban life characteristics and noted the traditionality of the Serbian towns and urban traditions, their dissimilarity with the western European and even Rumania towns.
