Abstract.
In the article certain ideological and philosophical roots that fed the artistic creativity of A. I. Herzen are considered. It is concluded that A. I. Herzen’s anthropological views were formed under the influence of various philosophical theories, mainly the western (in particular, rational egoism and positivism) ones. In accordance with positivistic ideas the writer believed that human behavior is motivated by innate peculiarities.
