Abstract. The author of the article considers in detail the motive of making “building sacrifice” in the traditional culture of the Chuvash people. The existence of texts with this motive in different ethnic groups is the proof of the archaic nature of the ritual. According to mythological representations a constructed building gets its own spirit as a result of the sacrifice ritual.
