SECONDARY FUNCTIONS OF THE GERMAN ARTICLE AND THEIR HIERARCHY CONDITIONED BY THE MEANING OF THE CATEGORY OF CORRELATION

Abstract.
The article aims to study the secondary functions of the German article at the sentence and text levels and the specifics of their hierarchy. The conducted analysis indicated that the ontological status of the noun predetermines not only the nature of the implemented types of correlation but also the possibility to use the article in the function of a rheme marker and its participation in the realization of text-formative and text-orientation functions within the discourse.
