STUDYING THE OSSETIAN LEGEND ABOUT RUIMON IN DOMESTIC HISTORIOGRAPHY (1882-1926)

Abstract.
The article for the first time examines the initial stage of studying the Ossetian legend about Ruimon, which is of great interest for reconstructing the traditional religious and mythological conceptions of the Ossetian people. The historiographic analysis indicates that in the mentioned period the researchers managed to reveal important correlations to the story about Ruimon in the archaic visual monuments of Caucasus. The scientists tried to identify possible historical background of certain elements of the legend about Ruimon and to find close analogues and possible genetic affinities of this image. Thereby trends for further research were established.
