Abstract.
The article discusses various types of word-formation variants and outlines the ways of the study of these formal varieties of the word from the point of view of communication studies. Particular attention is paid to the causes of derivatives variability, the speaker’s choice of one of the existing variants, the prospects of the study of communicative situations in view of the presence of word-formation variants.
