Abstract.
The author reveals the Russian Western region peasantry's attitude to law and rights in the first third of the XXth century, mentions that the original comprehension of legal order was inherent in the majority of peasants, which was typical of rural population also in pre-revolutionary period, and shows that the new government's activity on approaching law and rights to peasantry brought positive results, but in real life most peasants were still illiterate in legal matters.
