SOUTH URAL REGION PRISONS DURING GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

Abstract.
The author characterizes the general condition of the remand prisons within South Ural region during the Great Patriotic War, and reveals the basic directions in the work of prisons. Due to the fact that South Ural region was the rear area, with the war beginning the prisons obtained a new, previously extrinsic function - the intake and placement of evacuated special contingent, which negatively affected the work of the prisons. In general, the war years became one of the most difficult periods in the prison system development process within the region.
