Abstract.
The article is devoted to rural museums network formation in Buryatia in the 1960-2000s. The author pays special attention to the most famous rural museums in the region, for the first time presents their formation history, reveals the content of museums activity various forms, their cultural-instructive and scientific-methodological work, proves that the museums that appeared in the second half of the ХХth - the beginning of the XXIst century as public ones are active culture centers and population wide masses enlightenment means as they satisfy a man's spiritual needs and countrymen's aspiration to become familiar with general national and local cultural values.
