Abstract.
The author reveals the features of such specific form of artistic intellectuals' public initiative as the organization of exhibitions, pays special attention to the goals, tasks and types of art exhibitions in Omsk at the end of the 20s - the beginning of the 30s of the XXth century, determines the role of exhibition undertaking in Siberian urban culture specifics formation in particular and in soviet culture in general, considers adaptive, compensatory functions and the function of Siberian artists' activity legitimation, and shows that the material of the research can be used in the study of national history, culture history, and exhibition movement history.
