Abstract.
The author studies the data related to the number and ethnic composition of Khotin district population in the second half of the XVIIIth century located in the northern part of the Prut-Dniester interfluve, in the area that is long since a zone of two majoritarian ethnic groups interaction - the Moldovan and Ukrainian ones; and mentions that Khotin fortress played an important role during the Russian-Turkish wars of the XVIIIth century.
