Abstract.
The author undertakes the attempt to consider a Russian city as a social-philosophical phenomenon, analyzes the specificity of Russian urban spaces perception in historical retrospective, determines the social-cultural criteria of domestic cities development, mentions the problems of their differentiation, reveals the modern features of different types of urban settlements, and shows that one of the dominant factors of Russian urbanization is cities modernization degree.
