HISTORICAL CONSCIOUSNESS AND HISTORICAL MEMORY: CORRELATION BETWEEN NOTIONS AT PRESENT STAGE

Abstract.
Historical memory is one of the foundations of man's awareness of his I in family genealogy and in the history of his people, the understanding of our we in the national and cultural unity of the country. Its role is especially important in the formation of citizens' value attitude to the native land at present, when the Russian society experiences the transformation of cultural values, social institutions and moral behaviour regulators, when the relations between citizens and the state are transformed. The author tells that today there is no single definition of historical memory, and the term is often considered as the synonym of historical consciousness, and not only gives the examples of the interpretations of the notions historical memory and historical consciousness, but also undertakes the attempt to relate these notions to each other.
