Abstract.
The author considers the problem of airplanes production at the aircraft factories of St. Petersburg in 1909-1917. Not the handicraft production of experimental aircrafts, but namely the factory production of commercial airplanes for the army and navy was organized in the capital of the Russian Empire at such large enterprises as the Russian-Baltic Carriage Factory, the aircraft factories of S. S. Shchetinin and V. A. Lebedev. The establishment of the First Russian Association of Aeronautics in July 1909 initiated the creation of domestic aviation industry. The purpose of the article is the coverage of the little known materials about the origin and dynamic development of aviation production in St. Petersburg before the Revolution, which can be useful and interesting for both specialists and a wide range of the journal readers.
