Abstract. The author sets a task to demonstrate and substantiate his position on the origin of the ideas of equality and inequality, and to present the foundations of these phenomena. The study of equality and inequality origins means considering the genesis of stratification processes that take place in different historical types of society. It is the understanding of changes in society, the ability to identify new, using historical experience that allow giving an adequate assessment of the contemporary forms of society structuring.
