Abstract.
The author considers the reasons that forced Great Britain to withdraw from the policy of “splendid isolation” and to offer an alliance to Germany, reveals the motives that impelled the latter to reject it, pays special attention to the analysis of historical preconditions that led Great Britain to the doubts about the feasibility of following “splendid isolation” policy, and basing on the mentioned above determines the main reasons that prevented the two powers from reaching an agreement.
