Abstract.
The author researches public organizations activity in the cultural life of Ufa province urban population in the second half of the XIX
th – the beginning of the XX
th century, describes leisure, charitable, professional organizations and clubs during the period of the Russian society modernization, analyzes their role in the development of the towns culture, and also gives the idea about the changes that were evident in the functioning of the societies themselves during the period under review.
