Abstract.
Battle compositions in the art of ancient Egypt became extremely popular during the Ramesside period, but their roots go back to ancient times. By the example of a number of monuments belonging to the Predynastic period as well as the time of the Early, Middle and New Kingdom, the author determines the main stages in the development of battle scenes composition and iconography, and also classifies the monuments by their type. Until now, these issues have not been raised in the Egyptological studies, so the conclusions made as a result of this work can be used as the basis for the further study of the problem of battle scenes composition and iconography, their historical and symbolic interpretation.
