Abstract.
The author analyzes the views of the Russian historian M. P. Pogodin on the history of the medieval Kingdom of Poland. M. P. Pogodin sought to substantiate the validity of the uprising suppression in Poland by Russia in 1830-1831. He paid his attention to Poland’s medieval past, argued that the main reason of Poland gradual decline was the electivity of kings. But the facts from the history of Poland in the XIV
th-XVI
th centuries disprove his thesis. However M. P. Pogodin dated the beginning of the crisis in Poland by the XVII
th century, and it was productive. This coincides with modern views.
