Abstract.
The author represents the most important stages in the life and activity of Solovky prison history researcher M. A. Kolchin, analyzes his scientific work “Exiles and Prisoners in the Burg of Solovetskii Monastery in the XVI th-XIX th Centuries”, where the researcher described the reasons of prisoners’ imprisonment, the process of their convoy to Solovky prison, the places of their detention, the conditions of life, behaviour, health, etc., and tells that M. A. Kolchin’s considerable merit was the supplying information to public about the presence of Zaporizhian Sich Kosh Otaman P. I. Kalnyshevskii in the lists of convicts in Solovky.
