THE GERMAN MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR

Abstract.
The German military-diplomatic mission headed by O. Niedermayer and W. von Hentig actively acted in Afghanistan in 1915-1916. The author, using new materials from the Archive of the Russian Empire Foreign Policy, reveals the little-known details of the German military men and diplomats stay in Afghanistan during the First World War, analyzes the changes in the position of the Afghan leadership in connection with the German representatives’ actions, and undertakes an attempt to estimate the results of the interaction between the Russian and British authorities in order to counter the German attempts of Afghanistan involvement into the war.
