Abstract.
The article considers the problem of understanding Other, which is topical for the modern philosophy. The notion “Other”, developed within the framework of non-classical philosophy, has been studied recently in connection with the problems of understanding, communication and dialogue. One of the directions that marked the beginning of the independent research on the problem of Other is symbolic interactionism. The author considers the specificity of using the notion “Other” in symbolic interactionism, and the contribution of this direction to the development of the problem of understanding Other.
