Abstract. The article reveals the understanding of love as a determinant of system self-regulation. Love is considered within the framework of synergetic approach that allows representing existence as a structure consisting of different levels, each of which has its own structure. In addition, the author determines the function of love, which is the integration of all the forms of existence in a single process of self-organization. The author pays special attention to the theory of love, created by Empedocles, and correlates it with the contemporary theory of rhythm.
