FRENCH ENGRAVER ABRAHAM BOSSE (1604-1676) AND THE FIRST TREATISE ОN ETCHING ENGRAVING

Abstract. In the article the Russian researchers’ opinions about the French engraver A. Bosse’s artistic and scientific creative works are collected and analyzed, biographical data about the artist are specified on the basis of the West European researchers’ works, the list of his scientific works is presented for the first time in the Russian scientific literature. The author, having presented the main engraver’s treatise and analyzed the basic technical innovations suggested by him, gives the assessment of this book significance in the development of not only West European, but also the Russian engraving.
