Abstract.
In the article Barnaul period of the creative work of one of the outstanding representatives of the Russian avant-garde of the first third of the ХХ
th century Mikhail Ivanovich Kurzin (1888-1957) is considered, who played an important role in the formation and development of professional art in Altai region in the 20s of the ХХ
th century. For the first time archival data about the artist’s life and creative work are introduced into scientific circulation, his works are analyzed that are in the collection of State Museum of Art of Altai region.
