Abstract. This article focuses on researching little-studied source data relating to the number evolution and ethnic composition of Soroki district population of Moldavia principality from the end of the XVI th till the beginning of the XIX th century. Such researches within this historical area bordering with Ukraine are of special scientific interest. The author concludes that in the XVIII th century within the aforesaid area the Moldovan population was majoritarian but the proportion of other ethnic groups’ representatives was quite noticeable.
