Abstract.
The purpose of the article is the generalization of the sociological researches results of the beginning of the 2010s devoted to studying the ethnic consciousness of the Mari El Republic population. Language place in the respondents’ ethnic values system is determined in it. The authors suggest the conception of native language as the Maris’ ethnic identity factor and reveal the semantics of “native language” notion in the perception of the ethnic Mari respondents.
