TRADESPEOPLE AND MERCHANTRY IN LATE XVI TH – EARLY XVII TH CENTURY

Abstract. The changes in tradespeople’s position that took place under the influence of tsarist policy during the second half of the XVI th century are traced in the article. The government policy towards the merchantry is considered, in particular, two charters to the nobility are given as an example. In the article attention is paid to the little-studied issues about privileges for Kadashevo weavers and to the conditions, under which the merchants were awarded guest rank by the authorities.
