Abstract.
The article discusses the Ossetians’ nature conservation folk traditions based on the principles of natural resources rational use and the religious-mystical reverence of natural components and phenomena. The Ossetians’ traditional religious beliefs and cults related to nature are represented - the cult of tree, stone, water, their role is determined as an important factor in environment preservation that must be considered in the process of forming a new strategy of achieving ecological balance in the territory of Ossetia.
