Abstract.
The article reveals the content of the traditional sepulchral rite and the peculiarities of the sepulchral lamentations and funeral songs of the Abkhazians (by the material of folklore expeditions in Gudauta region). The characteristic feature of the musical filling of the Abkhazian sepulchral rite is described. The traditional sepulchral rite with its musical accompaniment is one of the summits of the national song creativity, an indicator of the people’s giftedness and musicality. Studying the musical-ethnographic aspect and genre variety of the rite allows revealing some artistic peculiarities of the Abkhazians’ traditional art.
