Abstract.
In the article systemic/complex approach to the study of the peculiarity of national/local cultures is postulated and the motivation of the use of this approach is revealed. The important role of oppositions in national culture as a systemic whole and in the comparative analysis of national cultures is emphasized. The functioning of oppositions is considered as a realization of the principle of compensation by the material of the Japanese and Russian cultures. The content and function of this principle are revealed.
