Abstract.
The article is devoted to one of the little-investigated aspects of the soviet propaganda and culture within the territory of Kalinin region in 1943-1945 - the work of village libraries and reading rooms. The author studies cultural and propaganda events, which were held on their basis, including lecture, library work, activity on the spread of propaganda published production; shows the efficiency of the work of village libraries and reading rooms, their role in the education of villagers that became free from the Nazi influence and the obstacles and shortcomings in the work of these seats of culture. The article is prepared on the basis of archival sources, which are introduced into scientific use for the first time.
